2016 Blessing of the Bikes

Cruisers, with zero RSVPs for the pre-ride and forecast temperatures in 30s in the morning, I’m cancelling the pre-ride. At the moment, the event is still on. Gates open at 10am. Actual blessing is at 1pm. Dee and I will probably still go, but just wait to get a later and hopefully warmer start.

Dogwood Festival – Sunday April 24, 2016

Cruisers,

Update on the short notice ride! Since we learned G&R is closed Sunday, plan B is: Sunday April 24. Kickstands up at 0930 from Cracker Barrel at SR122 and I75 for the Dogwood Festival in Pike County, OH. We’ll cruise through Ft Ancient and out through the country before having a festival food lunch. After hanging out at the festival a bit (determined by the attendees) we’ll head back and enjoy the country roads again. Optional pre-ride breakfast about 0830. RSVPs appreciated so we know to expect you!

2016 is here!

Good Afternoon Cruisers,

As the snow melts here on Weigold Mountain, my thoughts wander ahead to warmer weather and upcoming riding.  I’ve tried to keep things moving, albeit slowly these last couple of seasons in the absence of any additional help.  I plan to try to keep moving forward for 2016, and I sure could use some help doing so.

To start out, I’m going to update the roster again soon.  If you’re getting this email, you’re still on the Chapter roster at national or somehow otherwise affiliated with the Chapter.   If you no longer wish to be a member of the Chapter, please respond and let me know and I’ll remove you.

If you do wish to remain a member of the Chapter, then I’m hoping you’ll be willing to step up and help out even just a little.  I assumed the First Officer position out of a wish to prevent the Chapter from being disbanded as no one else was willing to take the position.  Unfortunately, I do not have the time to lead a lot of rides myself.  I’ll continue to do so as I can, but I could really use some Ride Captains.  Being a Ride Captain isn’t a particularly challenging job.  It just requires a bit of planning and organization.  Even just making time to lead one ride this season will be helpful.  If you’re interested, but not sure how to begin, I’d be happy to coach you through setting up your first ride.  Please let me know if you’d be willing to help in this fashion.

Next, I’d like to schedule a meet and greet before this season really kicks off.  Maybe even more than one.  Call it a meeting if you wish.   Since we have members all over the Miami Valley, I’d welcome some suggestions on a location.  My initial thought is something near the Dayton Mall, but again, suggestions are welcome.  I’m thinking it’s a place with perhaps a meeting room, and maybe some food.  Recommendations on a day of the week would be helpful too.  I’m hoping we can use this event to plan some rides and breathe a little life into the Chapter.

Thanks everyone!  I look forward to riding with you all again soon.

Blessing of the Bikes 2015

Cruisers,

Sunday May 17 is the 2015 Blessing of the Bikes.  We hope you’ll join us for a pre-ride starting at Cracker Barrel on SR122 in Middletown at I-75 before the event.  We’ll be there for an optional breakfast starting about 8AM and kickstands up about 9AM for a pre-ride through the country and leading up to the event at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.

The annual Blessing of the Bikes includes food, vendors, music and of course, the blessing.  It’s a good time even if you’re not of the faith.

PLEASE NOTE: in the event of rain which reschedules the Blessing, this ride will be cancelled!  The planned rain date for the event is May 24 and I’m not available to lead a ride that day.  If that happens, we hope you’ll still attend the event on the 24th.  A go-no go decision will be made by the event planners by 7am on the morning of the event.

RSVP requested.  We hope to see you there!

Short Notice – Young’s Dairy Ride – Sunday 4/26/15

Cruisers:

New State Officer JB Walker has invited us to join 344 and other chapters at Young’s Dairy in Yellow Springs on Sunday 4/26 for lunch and a meet and greet, starting at 1245.  I’m planning on starting a ride from Hamilton, leaving about 1000, but I haven’t decided my route yet.  If you’d like to ride along, you can start with me in Hamilton, or you can let me know where you’d like “picked up” and I’ll plan a route accordingly.  If you’d rather just meet us there, again, it is supposed to start about 1245.  RSVP appreciated either way.

Winter Meeting 2015

Good Morning Cruisers,

I hope all of you have had a happy New Year and you’re looking forward to getting out of the deep freeze and getting back on two wheels.   As for me, I’m looking forward to 2015 riding and I’d like to start trying to plan things for the coming season.  2014 was a slow season for us, and I have to admit, it’s been difficult to keep up my motivation for the chapter due to the lack of support we’ve had.  I’ve decided though that I’m going to push through another season and see if we can blow some life into the chapter.

To that end, I’d like to schedule a winter meeting with the intention of discussing and hopefully planning some rides for the coming season.  I plan to schedule the meeting mid February and I’d like suggestions as to a day, time and location.  I’m thinking a meet and greet format, probably over some food.  Obviously I’m further south than many of you, but I’d like to schedule the meeting location somewhere convenient for the majority of the attendees.  So, if you’d be up for such a get-together, please email me and throw out some suggestions.

Video Highlights – Double Ferry Ride with 179

If you missed the double ferry ride with 179 this past weekend, you missed a good one.  200+ miles of scenic country roads in two different states punctuated by crossings of the Ohio river on two different ferry boats.  While it’s tough to compress all that into a short video highlight, we tried.  Enjoy!

Blessing of the Bikes 2014

Cruisers,

I’ve discovered that I will in fact be able to lead a ride to this year’s Blessing of the Bikes coming up this Sunday May 18th.  Sorry for the late notice, but I’ve just learned that I have the day open and so far we’ve had no other volunteers to lead rides.

We’ll be meeting at Cracker Barrel on SR122 at I75 in Middletown.  Kickstands up for a ride to the event at 0930.   Join us for an optional pre-ride breakfast at about 0830 if you’re so inclined.  We’ll be taking some beautiful country roads to get to Welcome Stadium for the event, probably arriving between 1030 and 1100.   The event officially begins at 1000 and the actual blessing is at 1300.

If you’ve never been, it’s a fun event, even if you’re not of the faith.  They have food, vendors, bike show, live music and riding demonstrations and benefits a couple of great organizations.  Admission is $3 single/$5 couple.  Bring your camera!  Details on the event can be found at: http://www.blessingofthebikesswohio.com/

RSVPs appreciated so we know who to expect.  Hope to see you Sunday

Covered Bridges – November 3, 2013

Hey Cruisers,

After rescheduling once and then the reschedule getting cancelled for rain, we’re going to try one more time for the Covered Bridge Ride.  Sunday November 3, 2013, weather (and temperature ) permitting, join us as we tour the covered bridges of Preble and Montgomery County.   Hopefully we’ll still have some Fall color to enjoy.  We’ll stop at several for pictures and exploration and we’ll actually have lunch inside one!  Plan to pack a lunch, or grab something when we stop in Lewisburg.

Kickstands up from Cracker Barrel on State Route 122 at I-75 at 1000.   Feel free to join us for an option breakfast there about 0900.  We look forward to seeing you.   RSVPs appreciated!

Steve
